The Inspiration Behind Blu Impressions Publishing

Dr. Lena Payton-Webb’s journey to Blu Impressions Publishing is one of resilience, transformation, and purpose. A retired Army veteran, award-winning publisher, and accomplished digital artist, Lena’s mission was shaped by a deeply personal battle.

During her fight with cancer, the chemotherapy treatments took a devastating toll—she lost her eyesight and was declared legally blind for four years. Determined to regain her vision, she used coloring books featuring characters like Big Bird and Barney to retrain her eyes, slowly rebuilding her ability to see. However, as she regained her sight, she realized something was missing—there were no coloring books that looked like her or truly resonated with her experiences.

That realization sparked a new purpose: if she struggled to find books that reflected her, others must be facing the same challenge. She used her gifts in graphic design and storytelling to create books that were not only visually engaging but also meaningful, impactful, and representative of diverse voices.

Who We Serve and the Problems We Solve

Blu Impressions Publishing is called to serve coaches, speakers, and entrepreneurs who have valuable expertise but struggle to package it into a structured, profitable, and marketable format. We help them extract their knowledge, refine their message into clear frameworks, and transform it into high-impact published assets—such as journals, workbooks, and self-help books.

The problem we solve is the gap between expertise and execution—many industry leaders have powerful insights but lack the time, strategy, or publishing know-how to turn them into books that build authority, attract clients, and create multiple streams of income.

We provide a seamless, professional publishing experience that ensures their content is polished, profitable, and positioned for success.

Overcoming Challenges in the Early Stages

Let’s be real—limiting beliefs were my biggest challenge. I didn’t just battle them; I wrestled with them, fought them, and for a long time, I let them win.

When I lost my eyesight from chemotherapy, the world as I knew it went dark—literally and figuratively. I had spent years seeing possibilities for others, helping them create, design, and build their brands, but when I couldn’t even see my own reflection, doubt crept in. Who was I now? Could I still create? Could I still lead? My mind whispered every reason why I couldn’t, shouldn’t, and wouldn’t succeed.

But then came Big Bird and Barney. Yep, the same characters kids learn their ABCs from became my teachers. I used coloring books to retrain my eyes—starting with simple shapes and large outlines, forcing my vision to come back one page at a time. And with every stroke of color, I wasn’t just regaining my sight—I was reclaiming my vision for my life.

Then, a new challenge hit me: representation. Here I was, flipping through books, searching for images that looked like me, felt like me, spoke to my experience—and I came up empty. That was my wake-up call. If I couldn’t find it for myself, how many other people were struggling to see themselves in the books they bought?

That’s when I turned my challenge into my calling. I stopped waiting for permission, stopped waiting for the “right time,” stopped playing small. I created the books I wished existed, and I built a company that gave others the platform to share their stories, expertise, and legacy.

I had to shift my mindset from survival to success—no more waiting, no more doubting. I leaned into my gifts, trusted my experience, and took bold action. And now? Now, I get to help coaches, speakers, and entrepreneurs push past their own limiting beliefs and create books that don’t just sit on shelves, but open doors, build authority, and change lives.

Because here’s what I know for sure: Your pain can fuel your purpose. Your challenges can become your calling. And your story—the one you’ve been afraid to tell—is the very thing that will set you, and others, free.
